History of Grama Panchayat

Ongallur is known to have been a culturally rich settlement since ancient times and one of the principal Thalis under the rule of the Zamorin. The region preserves historical memories associated with the administrative legacy of the Perumbrayur Perumbaranayars and the military campaigns of Tipu Sultan. Traditional ritual and folk art forms such as **Thira, Chavittukali, Kolkali, and Daffmuttu** continue to thrive in the area even today. Historic landmarks including the Ramagiri Fort and the Ongallur Sree Thali Mahadeva Temple stand as important symbols of the region’s heritage. In the fields of literature, Kathakali, and India’s freedom movement, eminent personalities such as K. T. Ravunni Menon have become enduring symbols of Ongallur’s cultural pride.
