Institutional History
Etymology (Origin of the Name) Ongallur village, which was historically part of the Valluvanad Taluk in Palakkad district, is a picturesque region with a rich cultural and historical background. The land holds a deep heritage of agricultural prosperity and traditional crafts. Historical records indicate that the word "Ongal" translates to "elevated land" or "rising height." The name "Ongallur" derived directly from these unique geographical characteristics of the area.

The first general elections to the Panchayat were held in 1963, leading to the swearing-in of its inaugural governing council.
